22 Mar Passata Day
We’ve just celebrated the most incredible Passata Day ever!
For our friends Kate Berry and Rohan Anderson, the traditional Italian tomato celebration is one of the most sacred days in their annual calendar.
It is a special day where they crush, bottle and preserve their entire year’s supply of tomatoes and bring together their family and friends to share food, stories and the workload.
“We bring the ones we love together and to share our home, ourselves and our hearts with them. To let them know how much we love them and to put them to work,” Kate says.
It’s all about the tomatoes for Rohan. All 200kgs of them!
“This is my Melbourne Cup, Grand Final, Bathurst and Christmas all rolled into one.”
But for Kate, it’s a also day for fun. Which means bunting, bell tents and pizza!
The combination of homemade passata, fresh air and seasonal ingredients made for the best pizzas ever – with wild rabbit, duck, garden pesto, homemade chorizo and roasted vegetables!
But it was the pure happiness and feeling of community that made the day.
Friends, old and new. Boiling and crushing tomatoes together. Looking out for each other’s kids. Sharing a laugh over a beer and pizza. Inspiring one another. And supporting each other’s dreams.
We can’t wait to go back again next year.
